Corn Silage Drydown In Wisconsin During 1998

Joe Lauer, Corn Agronomist

Below are silage moisture levels for various counties in Wisconsin. Projected dates for silage harvest will change as environmental conditions influence maturity and the rate of drydown. Carefully monitor shorter-season hybrids for silage moisture this year. It looks like silage harvest will be early. Reports are based on drydown conducted by University of Wisconsin County agents. They are summarized by: 1) Drydown progress, 2) Hybrid selection and Planting date influences, and 3) other county agent reports based on farmer and consultant information.
