Corn Silage Drydown In Wisconsin During 1998

Below are silage moisture contents for various counties in Wisconsin. Projected
dates for silage harvest will change as environmental conditions influence maturity
and the rate of drydown. Carefully monitor shorter-season hybrids for silage moisture
this year. It looks like silage harvest will be early in the northern half of the
state this year. Reports are based on drydown data collected by University of Wisconsin
county agents.

dry-down rate of 0.5% per day during September. Rate is affected by environmental
conditions. The range in dates is the average
+ one standard deviation. The accuracy of the predicted harvest date
will improve as sample date progresses.
